God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. (Job 37:5 NIV84)
God doesn’t really speak audibly to his followers anymore. And some would have you believe that today, this verse simply applies to the Bible, the Word of God, that this is the only way God speaks to us today. But I know differently, because God has spoken to me in very marvelous ways.
In one of my lowest points, I remember, during a worship session at Celebrate Recovery, asking God if, despite my failures and my years of practically spitting in His face, “Do you still love me?”
Never before that moment had I ever truly felt the Holy Spirit rush over me. But in that moment, I felt a rush come over my entire body, I couldn’t help but smile and laugh (despite the fact that the moment before I was crying and depressed), and I could hear the answer flooding my mind, a resounding “Yes!”
But usually, He’s a lot more subtle (yet, still as obvious) than that. When was the last time you heard God’s voice thunder in your mind? Does He still speak to you? Has He put something in your path that was obviously from Him? Or, have you stopped looking for Him? Have you stopped listening for His voice?
Dear Lord, I long to hear your booming voice and see your wonderful works in my life. I know that Your hand is always guiding things in my life, but Lord, open my eyes to see them. Thank you for all that you do for me, especially the things that go unnoticed by me. Amen.
